Key Stage 3 Science
In Key Stage 3 you will be taught areas of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In Year 7 you will cover 12 units of work, 4 from each of the subject areas. The same pattern is repeated in Year 8 and Year 9.
Along with the science content and practical skills, there is a focus on Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
The resources on the Key Stage 3 pages are directly related to topics that you will cover in Key Stage 3 and so allows you to review and build on work covered during lessons.
The resources are also useful for students who for one reason or another are not able to attend school at any stage.
To use these pages first find the Year at which you are working at and then find the topic that you want to study.

Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
These are the skills and qualities that you need to succeed in school and the world outside school. Developing these skills will help you to become a successful student and learner, a confident individual and responsible citizens.
There are six PLTS:
independent enquirers
creative thinkers
team workers
self-managers
effective participators
reflective learners.
In some Science lessons you will focus on a single skill and at other times you will cover a number of skills.
To begin with your teacher will identify which skills you are covering but as time goes by you will be able to do this for yourself. You can find out more details about the PLTS here.

Study Skills
If you are really stuck on how to study use the KS3 revision page, the study skills website and the Get Revising website. These provide everything you need to know about making notes, summarising information and revising.

Exams
You will take 12 tests in Year 7, 8 and 9. One test for each of the units that you will cover. At the end of each year you will also have an exam. This exam will be on all the work covered during the year. It is important that you revise for the unit tests and exams as the grades that you get will help to decide your group for the following year.
