Shark Bait
Dive Malta

What is Shark Bait?
Shark Bait is the home of the Grove fair weather diving club.
We are a very select club in that we only dive when the conditions are just right.
It has to be warm and sunny, for us nothing else will do!

The club was established in 2003 when A Level students travelled to Malta as part of their field work.

Our first visit was made possible with the fanastic support of James Dowling, the then owner of Neptune Dive Centre (now the Cresta Dive Centre).
James arranged our collection from the airport at 2am along with just about everything else that took place during the week.

The orginal plan was to carry out a marine field study and at the same time get a little diving experience.  This quickly changed with the less than subtle persuasion of James.  We were quickly convinced that the PADI Open Water qualification was what we really needed.

It was only after we took up the offer that we were then given the 'learning material' that we would need to peruse and inwardly digest and the videos that we would have to watch, followed by the exams - so much for a relaxing week in the sun!

Under the watchful eye of 'Smiling Dave' the dive instructor, the week quickly became one of the best team and confidence building activities that the students (and staff) had ever experienced and all left with their Open Water qualification at the end of the week.

The club has been back to Malta every year since.  Each year new students take their Open Water exam whilst more experienced students and staff continue their studies further, moving on to Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver and even Divemaster levels.

Hotel

Once again the hotel for the visit will be the San Pawl hotel in St. Paul's Bay Malta.

Medical

Please note if your youngster has any health problems such as asthma or other problems that need regular medical treatment it is essential that you get a note from the doctor near the time - OR THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DIVE.

What's next for students!

Over the next few months the students have a number of things that they must do (as well as working for their Biology exams!)

There are dvds to watch, text book sections to learn and exams to complete.  All this must be done before the end of June.

For those who went on the 2009 trip, the profile for the final dive of the week at Cirkewwa looks like this - if you're interested!

Dive Malta - The Next Generation

Since the orginal Dive Malta in 2003 there have been a number of changes.

The Dive Centre is now based in St George's Bay and is now called the Cresta Dive Centre.

The Centre is still run by the same happy team of:

Casey - instructor

Smiling Dave - instructor
