Welcome to the Biology Department
This website is to provide Grove School students with quick and easy access to the resources needed to get the best out of their Biology and Science studies.
It also provides information about about events taking place over the year, deadlines for work and regular updates about the Dive Malta field trip along with a link to the Grove Chemistry website.
For students:
This site is for use both in and out of school. It is designed to help you build on what you have learned in lessons and then extend and apply your knowledge and understanding.
For parents: If you want to guide your youngster's learning, or your child is absent from school there are resources on our KS3 and Year 10 and Year 11 learning support pages to help continue and support their studies.
Why Study Biology?
Biology is an excellent subject to study both in its own right and as a support to other subject areas. It is a highly respected subject and allows students to access many University courses and future career opportunities. Read more here
At the Grove there is an added bonus that in Year 12 students have the opportunity to take part in Dive Malta our marine ecology and scuba diving field trip.
This is done as part of Dive Malta the Summer field trip.
A few years ago the Biology department carried out a unique experiment for the Grove. A group of particularly well motivated Year 7 students were identified and at the end of Year 7 these students were started on a Human Physiology and Health GCSE.
The students met once a week with their science tutor who guided their studies and monitored and assessed their coursework.
At the end of Year 8 the students were entered for the exam and all gained a grade C.
We are once again carrying out the the experiment but this time it will be delivered through the internet. Online work packs are provided for the students who will then meet with a tutor every few weeks. The use of this fully online package is a learning experience for both students and teachers!
