Pathology at the Grove
On Thursday 11th February 2010 Year Six students from neighbouring schools attended a Pathology afternoon at the Grove. The aim of the afternoon was to look at the health risks associated with smoking.
After an introduction from Mr Richards the students were set on their first task. This involved producing a survey of ten questions about alcohol. They then visited different classes to collect students views on alcohol.
The next task was to carry out an investigation to see how alcohol affects the way the liver works. Two samples of liver were tested, one from a healthy patient and one from an alcoholic. The students found that drinking high levels of alcohol damaged the liver and prevented it doing its work in the body.
Finally the students worked in group of two to produce an A4 information poster to communicate the fact that heavy drining can damage your health.
The afternoon went extremely well because of the very mature attitude of the students. For this they, their school and their parents are congratulated by the Biology team.
The information posters can be seen below.
Thanks once again to all the students
